Well known for her use of dense patterns of polka dots and nets, Yayoi Kusama is one of Japan’s most prominent contemporary artists. The pumpkin continues to occupy a special place in her iconography. She admires pumpkins for their hardiness and everyday quality, “enchanted by their charming and winsome form” and “its solid spiritual base”.
Complementing and energizing the grounds of Ardmore Residence is “My Pumpkin Exists in the Infinite”, one out of two large-scale Kusama created “pumpkins” found in the world.
