This is the view standing beneath the installation and looking straight up. The sculpture is arranged radially around a hollow core to allow the natural light to spill into the space during the day., subset 3 for 2010 folio

Floating Glass Sculpture

San Francisco-based sculptor Nikolas Weinstein is inspired by a longstanding interest in the natural world and its organic forms. His site-specific installations lie at the intersection of art, architecture and the natural world. Weinstein leverages new technologies to build works in glass, from small and intimate pieces to very large works.

His spectacular centrepiece in Capella Singapore’s circular Grand Ballroom with a glass-dome skylight is a one-metric-ton chandelier-like structure that comprises of 10,000 glass blown tubes. During the day, light floods through the installation and makes it appear almost transparent. At night, the glass tubes form a complex, reflective sheen that picks up the surrounding colours of the room.
