American contemporary artist Frank Stella is often referred to as the father of Minimalism. His works cover an incredible range of transformations, from his early abstract paintings to the overwhelming flood of colours and forms in his recent works. He is best known for his Black paintings that depict bands of black paint separated by thin pinstripes of unpainted canvas. “Rising” at Millenia Singapore is his first work to be featured in Singapore, a five-storey-high, 15m x 8m installation inspired by the “beautiful, fluid forms” that occur in the creation of smoke rings.
